Located at 310 Stuyvesant Avenue on Milton Point, in Rye, Durland Scout Center was one of only two Boy Scout properties on the Long Island Sound other than Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in Calverton, New York. It was built through the generosity of poet Agatha A. Durland, who died on December 5, 1963.

The reservation's namesake had donated her Long Island Sound bayfront mansion in Rye, New York on Milton Point, to the council and a 20-year trust to the council. In 2007, the waterfront property, Durland Scout Center, was sold to private developers.
