State Highway 6 (SH 6) runs from the Red River, the Texas–Oklahoma state line, to northwest of Galveston, where it is known as the Old Galveston Highway.In Sugar Land and Missouri City, it is known as Alvin-Sugarland Road and runs perpendicular to Interstate 69/U.S. Highway 59 (I-69/US 59).
FM 1462 was originally designated in Brazoria County on July 14, 1949, connecting SH 288 near Rosharon to SH 35 in Alvin. The route was extended to the Brazos River crossing at the county line on September 27, 1960, and then through Fort Bend County and to SH 36 at Damon on October 10, 1961.
The road was created in 1939 when SH 35 was rerouted south and east of town. The route was redesignated as Business SH 35-L on June 21, 1990. On April 27, 1995 the route was extended north to SH 35 and FM 3036 and south to SH 35 in Aransas Pass over former SH 35 and was also rerouted in Rockport with the old route redesignated as Loop 70.
