Goshen (/ ˈ ɡ oʊ ʃ ən / GOH-shən [2]) is a census-designated place in central Goshen Township, Clermont County, Ohio, United States. [1] The population was 715 at the 2020 census . [ 3 ] It is centered on State Route 28 (especially where it overlaps with State Routes 132 and 48 ), approximately midway between Milford and Blanchester .
Goshen Township is named after the Land of Goshen, whose name was meant to imply fertility of the soil. [4] It is one of seven Goshen Townships statewide. [5] The township was established in 1808. On July 6, 2022 Goshen Township and some surrounding areas were devastated by a EF-2 tornado. This tornado went through the heart of Goshen Township, striking the main fire station, the police department, & the township office building. The township office building also serves as the communities tornado shelter.
Goshen was originally built up chiefly by Germans. [2] An old variant name of Goshen was Beidler. [ 1 ] A post office called Beidler was established in 1888, and remained in operation until 1916.

Goshen Township was settled about 1801 by settlers from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ireland. [4] These settlers probably named their new township after a Goshen Township in Chester County, Pennsylvania. [5] Goshen Township was described in 1833 as having several gristmills and saw mills, three or four fulling mills and carding machines. [4]
