Established in 1791 and incorporated in 1899, the Town of Granite Falls is the southernmost municipality in Caldwell County. Granite Falls borders Lake Hickory on the southern end of town and borders Lake Rhodhiss on the western side of town.
Native Americans were the first to see the falls - sparkling waters splashing over huge granite boulders spanning Gunpowder Creek. Then pioneer Andrew Baird, in 1791, saw power in the churning waters - power he could harness to operate an iron works beside the stream.
The Lakeside Park features numerous trails for walking/hiking and mountain biking. The clearly marked trails are interspersed with opportunities to enjoy the water front views, have a picnic or do a little fishing. The park features an ADA accessible fishing deck and a binocular viewing scope.

The funding, announced on Friday, August 23, at a meeting held at the Nature Research Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, will support the redevelopment of Neighborhood Park, located near the downtown area of Granite Falls.
The Town of Granite Falls is governed by an elected Mayor and six Town Council members. All seven elected officials serve staggered four year terms. The Mayor presides at all meetings, calls for special meetings, votes to break ties on Council matters, and exercises other powers conferred by the Council.
