On 20 August 2019, Simple Minds announced the release on 4 October 2019 of Live in the City of Angels, their new live album capturing the band on their biggest ever (31-show) North American tour (24 September–11 November 2018), mostly recorded on 24 October 2018 at the Orpheum Theatre, Los Angeles, California (i.e. the City of Angels).
Live in the City of Light is the first (double LP / CD) live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds. It was released in May 1987 to document their successful worldwide Once Upon a Time tour, and charted at No. 1 in the UK. The album spawned one chart single release, a live version of "Promised You a Miracle".
On the eve of the Acoustic album release on 11 November 2016, Simple Minds took to the stage at London's Hackney Empire to perform a special show for the BBC's Radio 2 In Concert series. Simple Minds arranged to release two promotional exclusive free live CDs in April 2007 through the UK newspaper The Sunday Express, making it only the band's second official double live release in its entire career, the first one being Live in the City of Light released in May 1987.
