Brookfield is a city in eastern Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It had a population of 41,464 at the 2020 census . [ 5 ] The city is adjacent to the Town of Brookfield and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area .
After continued annexation by the City of Waukesha and the City of Brookfield, by 2005 the Town of Brookfield had decreased in size to 5.5 square miles. On March 26, 2012, the town of Brookfield filed a petition to incorporate to become a village, [8] which ultimately failed in 2015. [9] Previous attempts in 1999 and 2001 likewise failed. [10]

The 2024 redistricting act moved the district back to the east, re-adding most of the city of Wauwatosa and shedding a large part of the city of Brookfield.
