Bangor is a city in Van Buren County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,885 at the 2010 census . The city is located in the northeast corner of Bangor Township , but is politically independent.
Constructed in 1888 in downtown Adrian, the building served as the headquarters for the Adrian Lodge of the Odd Fellows. Bangor Township is a civil township of Van Buren County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township population was 1,939. [3] The City of Bangor is located in the northeast corner of the township, but is administratively autonomous. Bangor Township was organized in 1853. [4]
Bangor was platted in 1851 and was renamed Banks in 1864. In 1871, Banks became an incorporated village while Wenona was platted. [11] In 1873, the Township consisted of about 10 sections. The community of Bangor in 1873 was served by the Banks Post Office [12] which opened on May 18, 1864. The Banks Post Office was closed on May 1, 1866.

Joseph Trombley in 1834 purchased Bangor Township's section 16 from the government which was the beginning of the Bangor settlement. In 1852 the first mill was built. [2] Bangor was platted in 1857 by Joseph Trombley. [3] The community of Bangor was served by the Banks Post Office which opened on May 18, 1864.
Adrian Civil War Memorial, 1962 HABS—Historic American Buildings Survey image. Architect and sculptor Benjamin H. Latrobe created the design of the column for the Pennsylvania Bank. The monument architect was Francis R. Stebbins of Adrian Michigan. The column was donated to the association by a joint act of Congress, (No-78) dated July 27, 1868.
