Detroit Lake is a lake, locally known as Big Detroit and Little Detroit, has two distinct basins that are separated by a shallow gravel bar. At 3,067 acres, Detroit Lake is the largest lake within the Pelican River Watershed District and lies entirely within the city of Detroit Lakes , Minnesota municipal boundaries.
It is located on Oregon Route 22 about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of the town of Detroit, Oregon. Because it is on the north shore of Detroit Lake, it is administered as part of Detroit Lake State Park, even though it is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the park's boundary. Facilities include a boat ramp, swimming area, fishing area and picnic area.
May 7, 1973 (21 mi (34 km) north of Park Rapids off U.S. Route 71: Park Rapids: Minnesota's oldest state park, established in 1891. Also significant for its extensive archaeological resources, association with the quest for the Mississippi River headwaters, pioneer sites, and 72 park facilities built 1905–1942 noted for their rustic log construction and association with early park development.
Detroit Lake is a reservoir impounded by the Detroit Dam on the North Santiam River 46 miles (74 km) southeast of Salem, Oregon, United States. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The lake is adjacent to Oregon Route 22 near the city of Detroit .
There are 13 state underwater preserves covering 2,450 square miles (6,300 km 2) of Great Lakes bottomland and ten of them have a maritime museum or interpretive center in a nearby coastal community. [4] The DNR Parks and Recreation Division also manages 138 state forest campgrounds (including a dozen equestrian campgrounds).
Sites 1-155, the mini-cabin and shelters will close Sept. 3 to June 15, 2025. The campground is divided into two loops, the north and south, and has 155 sites total.
