The school traces its origins to 1850 when members of the order of Ursulines came to Sligo. The following year they established ‘’Nazareth’’, a free primary school. From this grew St. Joseph's National School and St. Vincent's Secondary School which became the Ursuline Convent. [2]
Fred Conlon (1943–2005) was an Irish sculptor.. Born in Killeenduff, Easky, County Sligo, where he was schooled, Conlon won a five-year scholarship to the National College of Art and Design in 1960.
Michael Fingleton was born in Tubbercurry, County Sligo in 1938, the son of a local Garda. He attended St Nathy's school in Ballaghaderreen, and in later years UCD, TCD and Kings Inns. [2] He attended a seminary, but quit before taking his vows. [3] In the early 1960s, he joined Allied Irish Finance and simultaneously began studying commerce.
Hamilton was educated at Sligo Grammar School and Trinity College, Dublin. After four years as a schoolmaster [ 2 ] he was ordained in 1936. After a curacy in Portadown , he held incumbencies at Milltown (1941–1947), Kilmore (1947–1952) and Armagh (1952–1965).
