The Walker Art Center is a multidisciplinary contemporary art center in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.The Walker is one of the most-visited modern and contemporary art museums in the U.S.: together with the adjacent Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and Cowles Conservatory, it has an annual attendance of around 700,000 visitors.
Martin Lee Friedman (September 23, 1925 – May 9, 2016) [1] was an American museum curator who spent the majority of his career as the director of the Walker Art Center and oversaw the opening of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1989.
He is active in the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), the Ploughshares Fund, and previously served on the boards of the Walker Art Center and Aim High Academy. Walker received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon. [12] He is married to Summer Tompkins; they have three children together. [13]
