In Ackergill is a famous tower/castle named Ackergill Tower. In the 1920s, archaeologists excavated an ancient cemetery in an elongated sand mound at Ackergill, finding ten graves with sixteen burials. Most inhumations were in long cists. Grave goods were found in only one of the burials.
The Wick and Pulteneytown Harbour lifeboat was finally retired in 1895. and the RNLI started a new station at Wick, providing a new lifeboat. Hector Sutherland, Town Clerk at Wick, and Honorary Secretary of Ackergill lifeboat, was also appointed Honorary Secretary for Wick Lifeboat Station, both stations being run by the same branch committee.
