Spiros Zodhiates (Greek: Σπύρος Ζωδιάτης; March 13, 1922 [1] – October 10, 2009) [2] was a Greek-American Bible scholar, author, and ministry innovator. He was best known for his work in developing AMG (Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel) International, a Christian missions and relief agency with operations in over 40 countries.
AMG International is a Christian ministry based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.The acronym AMG stands for "Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel." It was founded in 1942 in New York City as the American Committee for the Evangelization of the Greeks by George Georgakis.
The name given in the Gospels, Ζεβεδαῖος, is probably a transliteration of the Hebrew name Zəḇaḏyâ according to Spiros Zodhiates (The Complete Wordstudy Dictionary), or the truncated version Zabdî (זַבְדִּי), says BDB Theological Dictionary, and so means "Yahweh (or the Lord) has bestowed". [5]
