William Powell (b. before 1586 – d. January 1623), was an early Virginia colonist, landowner, militia officer and legislator. Considered an ancient planter for living in the Virginia colony during its first decade, he was one of two representatives from what became James City County, Virginia in the first Virginia House of Burgesses in 1619.
William held two black indentured servants, Isabell and Anthoney, who were among the first Africans in Virginia, arriving between 1619 and 1624, when their son William Tucker was born. He was the first African American child to be born in the Thirteen Colonies. [9] Captain William Tucker had 17 servants. [9] In 1625, he owned three African slaves.
Thomas Todd (January 23, 1765 – February 7, 1826) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1807 to 1826. Raised in the Colony of Virginia , he studied law and later participated in the founding of Kentucky , where he served as a clerk, judge, and justice.
