Erie, [a] officially the City of Erie, is a city on the south shore of Lake Erie and the county seat of Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the fifth-most populous city in Pennsylvania and the most populous in Northwestern Pennsylvania with a population of 94,831 at the 2020 census .
It is bordered to the west by the city of Erie, to the north by Lawrence Park Township, and to the east and south by Harborcreek Township. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.53 square miles (1.37 km 2), all land. [4] Fourmile Creek, a tributary of Lake Erie, forms the eastern border of the borough.

The town was founded in 1798 by James Campbell. The borough was incorporated in 1853. The Jamestown area is served by the Jamestown Area School District, and is home to Combined Systems, Inc., a tactical weapons producer that exports tear gas and smoke grenades.
