Crewe Alexandra Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Crewe, Cheshire, England. Nicknamed The Railwaymen because of the town's links with the rail industry, they play at Gresty Road. The team compete in League One, the third tier of the English football league system.

Crewe won the second leg 2–0, making the aggregate score 2–2, and then won a penalty shoot-out 4–3 to reach the final for promotion to EFL League One. Crewe lost the final at Wembley, beaten 2-0 by Crawley Town.
Including the 2023-2024 season, Crewe Alexandra has played in 101 Football League seasons. The club has never played in the top flight, and has played only 12 seasons in the second tier (four, from 1892 to 1896, when there were only two divisions); 48 seasons have been in the third tier (30 when there were only three tiers), and 41 in the fourth tier. [7] [8] They were based at the Alexandra Recreation Ground in Crewe, adjacent to Crewe railway station, and played their first match against a side from Basford in North Staffordshire on 1 December 1877, drawing 1–1. [3] [6] In 1883, Crewe Alexandra's first match in the FA Cup was against Scottish club Queen's Park of Glasgow, losing 10–0. [9]
On 4 June, Crewe announced their pre-season preparations, with matches against Newcastle Town, Stafford Rangers, Stoke City, Tamworth and Blackpool. [30] Two weeks later, the club confirmed the squad would travel to Algarve for a five day training camp.
