The Belgrade tram system is a 1000 mm gauge network that in 2021 had 12 routes running on 43.5 kilometres (27.0 mi) of (at least mostly) double track in the city of Belgrade, Serbia. In December 1981, the plan Metro Belgrade was finished and was presented to the city council in 1982. One of the ideas was that the Soviet Union could build the metro, and in doing so free itself of debt owed to Yugoslavia. This was however opposed by the republics Slovenia and Croatia. Due to their objections, this plan was not carried out. [6]
