Christian Hospital [29] is a community hospital located at the interchange of Interstate 270 and Highway 367 in north St. Louis County, Missouri. Founded in 1903, [ 30 ] Christian Hospital is one of the founding members of BJC HealthCare and specializes in heart surgery, neurological and stroke services, and diabetes care.
In February 1930, St. Louis University received a $1 million bequest ($13 million in 2010 dollars) from the estate of Firmin Vincent Desloge [7] a member of the Desloge Family in America, who provided in his will, funds for a hospital to serve St. Louis University and to replace the old St. Mary's Hospital, both in St. Louis. John J. Cochran Veterans Hospital is a 355-bed hospital located in St. Louis, Missouri. [1] It is one of two divisions of the VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS), a healthcare provider under the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). [2] The other division is St. Louis VA Medical Center-Jefferson Barracks. [3]
Barnes hospital opened on December 7, 1914, at its current location on Kingshighway Boulevard. The hospital was designed by architect, Theodore Link, and initially had a 373-bed capacity. It was at this time that the St. Louis Children's Hospital, and in 1915 the reorganized school of medicine, were relocated adjacent to Barnes Hospital. [4]
Homer G. Phillips Hospital was the only public hospital for African Americans in St. Louis, Missouri from 1937 until 1955, when the city began to desegregate. It continued to operate after the desegregation of city hospitals, and continued to serve the Black community of St. Louis until its closure in 1979.
