In September 2016, Ooredoo officially launched 4G service in Algeria, starting with only 3 wilayas, Bechar, Tlemcen and Tizi Ouzou, before expanding to the rest of the country. Ooredoo now is covering all Algerian Provinces, and was the first operator to achieve 4G coverage in all provinces.

In October 2013, the Algeria Regulatory Authority for Post and Telecommunication awarded 3G licences to the three mobile operators in Algeria: Mobilis, Ooredoo, and Djezzy. The mobile operator companies promised their clients better mobile internet service.
On 23 May 2016, Mobilis was the first operator in Algeria to be provisionally granted a license to launch 4G network. [4] It was officially launched on 1 October 2016 in Ouargla and Hassi Messaoud, [5] and extended to other provinces: Tlemcen, Constantine, Batna, Bordj Bou Arreridj, El Oued, Biskra, Boumerdès, Tipaza, Blida, Tizi Ouzou and Sidi Bel-Abbès, on 21 December 2016.
