The Royalton Hotel is a hotel at 44 West 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, United States. The hotel, opened in 1898, was designed by architecture firm Rossiter & Wright and developed by civil engineer Edward G. Bailey.
On October 6, 1900, the Penn Club of New York opened in four groundfloor rooms in the Royalton Hotel, just 200 feet (61 m) next door to today's clubhouse. It soon had more than 150 members at a time when only 400 alumni lived in the New York area, and received its charter from the New York Legislature in 1901.
What was known as "the common" was established as the South Royalton Park in 1878 and the state legislature passed an act to incorporate the South Royalton Park Association on November 1 of that year. [1] In 1886, following a fire that destroyed the village's commercial center, the town chose to only rebuild on the west portion of Chelsea St.
