NorthWood High School's mascot is the panther, and its colors are red and black. The school competes in the Northern Lakes Conference [4] along with Concord, Goshen, Mishawaka, Northridge, Plymouth, Warsaw and Wawasee. NorthWood's football team was state champion in 2005. Concord High School joined the NLC in 1967 and Wawasee High School joined in 1968. By 1970, all schools participated in all eight boys' sports. In the 1970s Girls' sports were added.

Plainfield was an elementary school within the district which was closed in 2011. [2] The school's campus is now used for Mackinaw High School. Douglas MacArthur High School and Dwight D. Eisenhower High School were merged in 1988 to create Heritage High School.
