The hospital was originally founded in 1966 as the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, after Charles Kirk Clarke, a pioneer in mental health in Canada. In 1998, it merged with several other Ontario institutions to form the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and the facility is now called the CAMH College Street site.
The organization was founded in 2013 by Donna Green and moved to a larger location Toronto's Queen West area in 2020. [5] Green opened the charity after struggling to find support for the mental health needs of her daughter, Stella. [5] The center works in partnership with City of Toronto and is funded by the federal government of Canada. [6]
