The Purple Line will follow a semi-circular route in central Tel Aviv, between Tel Aviv–Savidor Central railway station (Arlozorov Terminal) in the north and Tel Aviv–HaHagana railway station in the south, looping westwards through the heart of the city. On the way it will pass through Arlozorov, Ben Yehuda, Allenby, Aliya and Levinsky streets.
The third, or Purple Line, is envisaged as a 27 kilometres (17 mi) line with 43 stops and will connect Sheba Hospital through Giv'at Shmuel and Kiryat Ono, and will connect Arlozorov in Tel Aviv to Yehud and Or Yehuda through Ramat Gan. This line will be over-ground for its entire route.

The Tel Aviv Light Rail, serving Tel Aviv and surrounding cities, has opened its first line, the Red Line, in August 2023. A significant portion of it is underground, and two other lines are underway, the Green Line and Purple Line. A small portion of the Green Line will be underground while the Purple Line will be entirely above-ground.
An extension will go east through Ramat Aviv, Tel Aviv University, Expo Tel Aviv and Ramat HaHayal. The Purple Line , also set to open in 2027 or 2028, will connect North Tel Aviv Savidor Central railway station to Yehud .
Both the Green Line and the Purple Line are under construction and the estimated opening year is 2027/2028. The Tel Aviv Metro, an extensive 3-line subway system, is planned for Tel Aviv and surrounding cities in the Gush Dan area. It will consist of 3 lines with a total length of 150 km (93 mi) and 109 stations.
