Sell became the first female promoted to 7th degree black belt in the World Chung Do Kwan Association by her instructor, Park Hae-man, who is currently a 9th degree black belt, and the head of the Kukkiwon, and the World Chung Do Kwan Association, as well as obtain her Kukkiwon 7th degree credentials from the World Taekwondo Federation.
Jun Lee became one of Kang's top students, earning his black belt at the age of 13. In the early 1970s with the Vietnam war winding down, many young Korean Taekwondo masters immigrated to the United States, including Jun Lee's older brother, Hyeon Kon Lee. After black belt, practitioners of the Kukkiwon system practice the Yudanja and Kodanja series of black belt Poomsae of the Kukkiwon (Koryo, Kumgang, Taebaek, Pyongwon, Sipjin, Jitae, Cheonkwon, Hansoo, Ilyo). Many Chung Do Kwan schools also practice the Chang Hun tul, even if they are not affiliated with the International Taekwon-Do Federation.
He currently has earned a ninth-degree black belt and holds the title kwan jang-nim (Grandmaster) under the direction of the Kukkiwon. Park was the undefeated Korean national champion of Tae Kwon Do from 1971 to 1975 and the former coach of the U.S. Olympic and Pan-American Tae Kwon Do team. [2]
In his time, Kyo Yoon Lee continued to be active in the Kukkiwon and served on the High Dan/Poom Black Belt promotion committee of the Kukkiwon. Korea Han Moo Kwan still exists today, but only as a fraternal social friendship club. The official training curriculum endorsed by Korea Han Moo Kwan is the Kukkiwon curriculum.
Un Yong Kim was the first President of Kukkiwon, [10] [11] and resigned from the position on 15 November 2001. [12] [13] Woon Kyu Uhm of the Chung Do Kwan was elected president on 2 March 2004. [6] The President in late 2005 was Yong Gye Um. [14] On 10 December 2009, Seung Wan Lee of the Jidokwan was elected as Kukkiwon's next President. [15] [16]
A young red/black-belt performs Koryo. While organisations such as ITF or Kukkiwon define the general style of taekwondo, individual clubs and schools tend to tailor their taekwondo practices.
