Re: What type of head gasket sealant do I use? Never seen a 78+ crossflow head gasket that didn't come treated already. I'd just put that on dry. The other gaskets should have the non-hardening sealant on it. Either the OMC, or the permatex non-hardening sealant (permatex #3?)
Re: Evinrude Engine/Engine Gasket Sealers List. I'll start: I use OMC/BRP gasket sealant for general gasket sealing, and pressed in seals (OD), screw threads, etc. It is just so much more pleasant to use than the permatex stuff. Schotchgrip #847 replaces the omc adhesive M for metal to metal fits, like where the gearcase bolts up to the exhaust ...
Oct 24, 2004. #1. I've got the head off my 1967 20HP Johnson FD 21R, and will soon be re-installing. Seloc's says,<br />"Place a NEW head gasket in place on the cylinder block. NEVER use automotive type head gasket sealer. The chemicals in the sealer will cause electrolytic action and eat the aluminum faster than you can get to the bank for ...
Joined. Apr 21, 2010. Messages. 220. Apr 10, 2017. #1. I'm overhauling the powerhead on my 1974 Johnson 50. The factory manual says to put gasket sealer on the head gasket. I opened my new OMC head gasket from the package and the words "DON'T USE SEALER" are embossed on the gasket.
i rebuild a 7.5hp Evinrude 2stroke 1983 and before put the new head gaket on i wonder if i should use any sealant.A guy i had met and looked expert had told me to put a thin film of oil all around the gasket. When the oil gets burnt it leaves on the metal surfaces a protective layer.Another car...
As a general rule, sealant is used on all gaskets---EXCEPT reed plate, intake manifold, anything to do with the carburetors or where it would foul a fuel passage. Head gaskets, depends on whether or not it has a pre-applied sealant coating. Do not add sealant if it does. Also, use it on the outside diameter of all pressed-in seals.
1973 Johnson 6hp:Due to previous overheating problems (waterpump replacement fixed this issue) that caused discolored powerhead, I've decided to replace the head gasket. The Clymer manual for this model suggests using an OMC gasket sealant, but my local dealer doesn't carry that. He does carry...
Re: head gasket insatllation with/without sealant. Use it. It is more of a dressing than anything. It is a wet sealer and makes the gasket more pliable. One of the things it does is lubricates the gasket so you do not tear the gasket when you torque it. Just enough to make a thin coat. Keep it off the metal ring.
Head gasket cracked and blown, all three cylinders; strangely enough, all port side middle. Compression revealed top 125, middle 30, bottom 125. OEM gasket says no sealant, SELOC says use sealant, which is correct? Fresh water motor, water jackets are clear, is this normal to have cracking/blown...
This gasket need sealant? Thanks guys. Installed the gasket dry as I did not have the proper sealant here and wanted compression numbers tonight. Unfortunately it didn't bring comp up like I was hoping. Found water in lower right cylinder last week and turns out head gasket was blown between the two metal rings that seal the cylinders.
