The Suzuki Katana is a street motorcycle sold between 1981 and 2006 and then since 2019. It was designed in 1979–1980 by Target Design of Germany for Suzuki.. The Katana name was later applied to a range of in-house styled sport touring motorcycles in North America through the 2006 model year and, starting at the turn of the millennium, a line of 50 cc scooters in Europe.
Outside the US market the GSX 750S Katana was completely restyled in 1984 sharing the same engine and 16" front wheel chassis of the ES. 1984 also saw the release of completely new GSX-R 750 signaled a new direction of race-replica sport bikes. The GSX range being relegated from the role of flag-ship models in the Suzuki range.

Suzuki updated the GSX-S1000 in 2017, increasing the engine power to 150 bhp and torque to 79.6 ft⋅lbf at 9,500 rpm. It was fitted with a slipper clutch and has cosmetic changes such as black levers and foot pegs/controls. The GSX-S1000F variant gained the same changes and also a tinted screen.
