Hamiet Bluiett, Vision XIII Festival. Hamiet Bluiett (BLUE-et; September 16, 1940 – October 4, 2018) [1] was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer.His primary instrument was the baritone saxophone, and he was considered one of the finest players of this instrument.
His mother, who was the organist in his father's church, encouraged James to have an interest in music, although he became largely self-taught on the saxophone. [3] He eventually favoured the baritone saxophone, but has been recorded playing tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, as required.
