McAlister Square is an American repositioned shopping mall in Greenville, South Carolina. It is notable for being the first enclosed shopping center in South Carolina, [1] and the largest shopping center in the state at the time it was built. It is now a hybrid property, with the largest tenant being the University Center of Greenville.
Haywood Mall is a shopping mall in Greenville, South Carolina, United States. The mall is the largest in the state, with 1,237,411 square feet (114,959.2 m 2 ) of retail space. The super-regional mall opened in 1980 at the intersection of Haywood Road and I-385/Golden Strip Freeway .
Belk was founded in 1888 by William Henry Belk in Monroe, North Carolina, outside Charlotte. The store was first called New York Racket and then Belk Brothers, after Belk made his brother, physician John Belk, his partner. [3] Belk bought in volume to pass savings on and sold at fixed prices, then a relatively unusual practice. [4]
Inlet Square Mall was a single-level, 434,482-square-foot (40,364.7 m 2) regional shopping center located in Garden City, South Carolina, United States.Opened in 1990, the mall originally housed 45 stores and services, but as of December 2023, it only has two major tenants remaining: Belk and Planet Fitness.
The long-struggling mall property is set to get a massive, $100 million overhaul in coming years. The longtime department store there says it is exiting before the bulk of that work begins.
The original anchor stores were Belk, JCPenney, and Meyers-Arnold, with H. J. Wilson Co. joining in the 1980s. The latter two stores became Uptons and Service Merchandise respectively in the 1980s. Following the closure of those stores, the mall was purchased by a new owner in 2000 and renamed three years later to Greenwood Mall.
