Traditionally, a number of different sizes were defined for large sheets of paper, and paper sizes were defined by the sheet name and the number of times it had been folded. The difference between those widths and the name of the bay size is because it is named after the size of floppy that would fit in those drives, a 5.25-inch-wide square. Half-height drive bays are 1 + 5 ⁄ 8 inches (41.3 mm) high by 5 + 3 ⁄ 4 inches (146.1 mm) wide, and are the standard housing for CD and DVD drives in modern computers.
