"Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" is a song by British rock band Coldplay. It was released as the lead single for their fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto on 3 June 2011. An exclusive digital EP version of it, with the B-sides "Major Minus" and "Moving to Mars", came out in the following weeks, being considered the band's eighth extended play.
The song was inspired by a documentary of the same name, which is based around two families being forced out of Burma into an entirely new world in the UK. [1] The film was directed by the band's longtime collaborator Mat Whitecross, who also directed some of Coldplay's music videos, such as "Lovers in Japan", "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", "Paradise" and "Charlie Brown".
"Paradise" and "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" received a total of three nominations at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards in 2012, while the album and "Charlie Brown" received two further nods in the following year. Internationally, Mylo Xyloto charted at number one in 34 countries. [9]
