Vail Ski Resort is a ski resort in the western United States, located near the town of Vail in Eagle County, Colorado [1]. At 5,289 acres (8.3 sq mi; 21.4 km 2 ), it is the third-largest single-mountain ski resort in the U.S., behind Big Sky and Park City , [ 2 ] featuring seven bowls and intermediate gladed terrain in Blue Sky Basin .
Vail Resorts was founded as Vail Associates Ltd. by Pete Seibert and Earl Eaton in the early 1960s. Eaton, a lifelong resident, led Siebert (a former WWII 10th Mountain Division ski trooper) to the area in March 1957.

The resort struggled on for its first ten years. Some of the first lifts included a t-bar at the base area. In 1963, Crested Butte constructed a top-to-bottom gondola from the base area to near where the bottom of the High Lift is today.
