The Zurich S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn Zürich) system is a network of rail lines that has been incrementally expanded to cover the ZVV area, which comprises the entire canton of Zurich and portions of neighbouring cantons (Aargau, Glarus, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, St. Gallen, Thurgau and Zug), with a few lines extending into or crossing the territory of southern Germany.
From Winterthur, the service runs over the main Zurich–Winterthur railway line to Effretikon, but then takes the secondary route via Kloten to Zürich Oerlikon, from where it proceeds through Zürich via Zürich Hauptbahnhof and Zürich Stadelhofen. From Stadelhofen, trains then run over the Lake Zürich right-bank railway line to Rapperswil.
The S2 is a railway service of the Zurich S-Bahn on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) transportation network, and is one of the network's services connecting the canton of Zurich with the cantons of Schwyz and St. Gallen. At Zürich HB, trains of the S2 service usually depart from underground platforms (Gleise) 31–34 (Löwenstrasse station).
