Patna Metro (Patna MRTS) is a rapid transit system being constructed in the city of Patna, India. [4] [5] Construction will be completed over five phases, and the transit system would be owned and operated by the state-run Patna Metro Rail Corporation. [6] [7] In the first phase, five stations of Patna Metro will be operational by March 2025. [8]
The decision was taken due to the high cost of constructing metro rail systems. [29] In August 2017, the Union Government announced that it would not provide financial assistance to the new metro rail project unless some sort of private partnership is involved.
The total estimated cost of the project was ₹ 2000-2500 Crore. The total length of the proposed 4 monorail corridors in Patna would be 32 km and in the first phase route length between 20 km and 25 km was to be completed. [5] As of 2021 the project has not commenced.
With maximum speed of 160 km/h and average speed of 120 km/h, commuters using the system will be able to cover the distance between Karnal and Delhi in 45 minutes. The project is expected to cost ₹ 21,627 crores. [3]
