In 1960 the 1st and 3rd Destroyer Squadrons were amalgamated to form a new 1st Destroyer Squadron. As a result, Lagos and Armada paid off into reserve, Armada being broken up at Inverkeithing in 1965 and Lagos at Bo'ness in 1967. The new 1st Destroyer Squadron completed a very busy final two-year commission before finally paying off in May 1962.
