HARTINGTON — The Skylon Ballroom will hold its last dance this summer, and will most likely be torn down after that. Hartington city voters decided the fate of the historic ballroom Tuesday, with 357 people voting against a proposal to move and refurbish the Skylon, while only 231 people favored the proposal.

OMAHA — Cedar County News co-Publisher Peggy Year was recently elected to the National Newspaper Association Board of Directors. Year, who served on the convention committee to help organize this year’s national event, was elected during the NNA National Convention here Sept. 26.
WAUSA – For Gerald “Gerry” Schumacher, serving his country as a member of the military was nothing new to his family. The Wausa man, who spent part of his life residing near Hartington, served in the U.S. Navy from 194446.
In all, the Cedar County News picked up 30 awards during Saturday night’s 2023 Better Newspaper Contest awards ceremony in downtown Lincoln. Those awards included 12 first-place plaques, eight second-place plaques and 10 thirdplace plaques.
