    Your neck looks too thick because of the trachea misplacement. The neck of a heron is much thinner in the upper 1/3 of its length – here you need to study photos more. Your neck is almost the same thickness throughout. The gular region is also a bit too full, but perhaps it had just swallowed something.

    The very long neck is wrapped/bent way up next to the main body if you have ever seen a flying heron. The back of the skull is reasonably close to the place where the wings attach on the front portion of the back. At a distance the neck isn't even visible. Third, the legs, if in main flight are tucked up parallel to the body and close to the tail.

    The green heron you posted is a good mount. You know it, and I know it. I am simply posting my opinion, and it is only opinion, on things I would change would I mount another green heron in the near future. I believe, playing around with the fresh carcass and seeing how the neck and skin works would be very beneficial in creating a good mount.
