The cup game begins with a cup placed upside down in front of each player. Assuming a right-handed player, the rhythm normally proceeds as follows: Beat number 1: Clap twice; Beat number 2: Alternating hands, quickly tap the top of the cup with the fingertips three times (In some variations, the table on either side of the cup is tapped)
The game's scores are tracked on the fingers of both hands. Splits (sometimes called Calculator, Chopsticks, or just Sticks) [citation needed] is a hand game for two or more players, in which players extend a number of fingers from each hand and transfer those scores by taking turns tapping one hand against another.
The game is usually started out by one person who acknowledges a task that needs to be done, and calls out zonder ("without") followed by the task. People who make the "roof" are exempt from having to do the task, and so the last person to make the roof is the one who has to do it.
The chosen "seven up" children then circulate around the room, secretly pressing down one thumb each and then returning to the front of the room. A variation is simply tapping the person. This part of the game takes about one minute. The selected player then calls, "Heads up, seven up!" or "Heads up, stand up!"
