The National Arts Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and members club on Gramercy Park, Manhattan, New York City.It was founded in 1898 by Charles DeKay, an art and literary critic of the New York Times, to "stimulate, foster, and promote public interest in the arts and to educate the American people in the fine arts".

During an 1880s renovation of the Samuel J. Tilden Mansion, now home to the National Arts Club, La Farge was one of several artisans hired by lead architect Calvert Vaux. He created stained glass panels for the interior of the mansion which remain today. [14] La Farge traveled extensively in Asia and the South Pacific, which inspired his painting.
