AsiaBasket is an Asian men's professional basketball league founded in 2021. The league hosts tournaments mainly consisting of professional and collegiate teams based in Southeast Asia . Originally called the Filipino Basketball League, or FilBasket in short, it initially began as a domestic basketball tournament in the Philippines .
The 2023–24 East Asia Super League was the second regular season of the East Asia Super League, an international basketball club competition involving teams from domestic leagues in Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Taiwan. [2] [3] The season started on 11 October 2023, and ended on 10 March 2024.
Like the previous season, the 2024–25 East Asia Super League will have eight teams. [1] If precedent would serve as basis for the team allocation, the finalist of the Taiwan's (Chinese Taipei) P. League+, Japan's B.League and South Korea's Korean Basketball League are expected to qualify and take part for the 2024–25 season alongside two teams from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The East Asia Super League was co-founded by Matt Beyer and Henry Kerins [2] as the Asia League as a response to what the founders deem as a lack of high-level international tournaments featuring basketball clubs in the region [3] also taking into account the population in the region, about 2 billion, which could be a potential market for a regional inter-club tournament.
