David Smith (27 November 1962 – 18 May 2002) was an English professional wrestler best known for his appearances in the United States with the World Wrestling Federation under the ring names Davey Boy Smith and The British Bulldog.
The British Bulldogs were a professional wrestling tag team consisting of cousins Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid. They competed throughout the 1980s in Britain, North America and Japan and have consistently ranked among the top tag teams in history. [ 1 ]
Tragically, The British Bulldog passed away at the age of 39 after past issues concerning his body seemingly caught up to him, causing a massive heart attack. He was set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at WrestleMania weekend this year but that ceremony was obviously postponed.
The British Bulldog had an impressive tag team run alongside The Dynamite Kid as The British Bulldogs, taking on the best in WWE. Smith's wrestling legacy includes memorable matches, multiple championship victories, and a unique in-ring style that has influenced many wrestlers.
Smith has also appeared for World of Sport Wrestling (WOS Wrestling) under the ring name British Bulldog Jr. He is the son of the late wrestler "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, and Diana Hart, the youngest daughter of promoters Stu Hart and Helen Hart.
The British Bulldog passed away on May 18, 2002, but his legacy lives on today in WWE video games and on WWE Network, and he was recognized for his contributions to the industry in 2020 with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Tom Billington later became famous as the Dynamite Kid, a professional wrestler who left England and Joint Promotions British Wrestling for Canada (Calgary) to join Stu Hart and Stampede Wrestling in 1978. Davey followed him when he turned 18 and started with Stampede Wrestling in spring of 1981.
