The Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility (NNHCF) is a state prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, United States. It is a part of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. It is 120 miles (190 km) north of the state capital at Concord. NNHCF contains only medium security male prisoners and has a maximum capacity of approximately 500 prisoners.
The largest correctional facility in the state is the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord, which is managed by the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. The agency has its headquarters in Concord. [2] As of June 30, 2022, the department had an inmate population of 2,029 and 709 total employees. [3]
The prison, which was opened in 1878 to replace a previous prison constructed in 1812, is the oldest in New Hampshire Department of Corrections. It was expanded and renovated in the 1980s, and it houses maximum security male prisoners and has a 60-bed secure psychiatric unit and residential treatment unit.
New Hampshire corrections officials began a pilot program of body-worn cameras using a U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance federal grant awarded in 2019.
