Francis Cockrell was Missouri's longest-serving senator (1875–1905). Missouri is one of fifteen states alongside California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Utah to have a younger senior senator and an older junior senator.

The district is based in central Missouri including all of Cole, Camden, Miller, Moniteau and Morgan counties. [2] The state capitol of Jefferson City is within the district, with other municipalities including California, Camdenton, Eldon, and Osage Beach. The district is also home to the Lake of the Ozarks and Lincoln University of Missouri.
Missouri's 1st congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state. It includes all of St. Louis City and much of northern St. Louis County, including the cities of Maryland Heights, University City, Ferguson and Florissant. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+27, it is the most Democratic district in Missouri. [2]
The Republican-controlled state legislature decided to redefine Missouri's 3rd congressional district, which was represented by U.S. Representative Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis).
