The films have been in production since 2007, and in that time Marvel Studios has produced and released 35 films, with at least 10 more in various stages of development. It is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $31.3 billion at the global box office.
Most of the films in the franchise's Phase One and Phase Two follow a similar timeline order to their releases, but Phase Three saw many of the films overlapping with each other. The Phase Three film Avengers: Endgame (2019) includes a five-year time jump, with many subsequent releases in Phase Four and Phase Five taking place after Endgame .
By April 2014, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that additional storylines for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were planned through 2028. [1] During Marvel Studios' panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, Feige announced several films and Disney+ television series in development for Phase Four of the MCU, [2] before revealing the film Blade was also in development. [3]
X-Men: Apocalypse premiered in London on May 9, 2016, and was released in the United States on May 27, 2016, in RealD 3D, IMAX 3D, 4DX and Dolby Cinema formats by 20th Century Fox. The film received mixed reviews from critics. A sequel, titled Dark Phoenix, was released on June 7, 2019.
