The Nutcracker (Russian: Щелкунчик [a], romanized: Shchelkunchik, pronounced [ɕːɪɫˈkunʲt͡ɕɪk] ⓘ), Op. 71, is an 1892 two-act classical ballet (conceived as a ballet-féerie; Russian: балет-феерия, romanized: balet-feyeriya) by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, set on Christmas Eve at the foot of a Christmas tree in a child's imagination featuring a Nutcracker doll.

[16] [17] A final waltz is performed by all the sweets, after which the Sugar Plum Fairy ushers Marie and the Prince down from their throne. He bows to her, kisses Marie goodbye, and leads them to a reindeer-drawn sleigh.
She emerges from the coat onto a wintry pavilion, where she finds the Nutcracker transformed into a handsome prince. They dance romantically, and as they depart the snow falls and the snow fairies appear to dance the "Waltz of the Snowflakes". Clara and the Prince sail away to a castle where they are welcomed by the Prince's Royal Court.
The song "O Tannenbaum" features a lead vocal by Johnny Mathis. Five of the album's tracks were included in the group's 2004 compilation Christmas Celebration.
