In 1974, Travers Tool purchased and moved into a 25,000-square-foot (2,300 m 2), 2-story facility at 25-26 50th Street in Woodside, New York. As business grew throughout the 1980s, Travers Tool moved into a larger facility at 128-15 26th Avenue, Flushing, New York and built a 75,000-square-foot (7,000 m 2) warehouse in Duncan, South Carolina.
Thomas P. Scanlan (1896–1986), was the founder and publisher of the Chicago-based Surplus Record. Mr. Scanlan was a University of Notre Dame graduate. After World War I, he began Surplus Record, which grew into a national trade publication for the used-machinery business which listed used machine tools and capital equipment.
