The station signed on the air on September 26, 1954, as WINT, originally owned by Tri-State Television and broadcasting from a transmitter in Auburn.While it was the Fort Wayne area's second television station, it was originally licensed to, and had studios in, Waterloo, north of the city; it identified with both cities, "Waterloo/Fort Wayne", during this time.
