The Chevrolet 90° V6 family of V6 engines began in 1978 with the Chevrolet 200 cu in (3.3 L) as the base engine for the all new 1978 Chevrolet Malibu. The original engine family was phased out in early 2014, with its final use as the 4.3 L (262 cu in) V6 engine used in Chevrolet and GMC trucks and vans.
The engine was built only for front-wheel-drive applications, and was featured exclusively in the first generation of GM's W-body platform. It was built from 1991 to 1997. From 1991 to 1993, it used tuned multiport fuel injection, and made 200–210 hp (149–157 kW) at 5200 rpm and 215 lb⋅ft (292 N⋅m) of torque at 4000 rpm.
A planned 2.9 L; 179.1 cu in (2,935 cc) double overhead camshaft V6 engine, featuring four valves-per-cylinder and common-rail direct fuel injection. Developed for General Motors but stopped at the end of 2008; after Cadillac left the European market and Saab was put for sale, GM had no use for that engine.
The Northstar engine is a family of high-performance 90° V engines produced by General Motors between 1993 and 2011. Regarded as GM's most technically complex engine, the original double overhead cam, four valve per cylinder, aluminum block/aluminum head V8 design was developed by Oldsmobile R&D, [citation needed] but is most associated with Cadillac's Northstar series.
For this inline-4 engine, 1-3-4-2 could be a valid firing order.. The firing order of an internal combustion engine is the sequence of ignition for the cylinders.. In a spark ignition (e.g. gasoline/petrol) engine, the firing order corresponds to the order in which the spark plugs are operated.
In 1978, GM began to market the 231 as the 3.8 liter as metric engine sizes became common in the United States. The RPO Code was LD5 , though California-emissions versions were called LC6 . Starting in 1979, the engine was used in the front-wheel drive Buick Riviera , though still with a longitudinal mounting.
