Jean Butler (born March 14, 1971) is an American stepdancer, Irish dancer, choreographer, and actress. She is best known for originating the principal female role in the Irish dance theatrical production Riverdance .
Riverdance is a theatrical show that consists mainly of traditional Irish music and dance.With a score composed by Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval act during the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler, Michael Flatley and the vocal ensemble Anúna.
"Riverdance" was composed by Bill Whelan and was first recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland, in March 1993. [2] The song's inspiration came from the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest, when Ireland, as the competition's hosting country, organised an interval act called "Timedance", a Baroque-influenced ballet composed by Whelan and Dónal Lunny and performed by Planxty.
Electro Velvet performed their entry representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, "Still in Love with You". This performance did not appear on the televised show, but was exclusively done for the audience members of the concert hall itself and was later uploaded on the BBC's social media pages and YouTube channel.
