[1]He is the author of a number of works of non-fiction, including the history book The Tower Menagerie, [2] and one of the editors of The Ultimate Book Guide, a series of reading guides for children and teenagers, [3] the first volume of which won the Blue Peter Book Award.

Anthea Bell OBE (10 May 1936 – 18 October 2018) was an English translator of literary works, including children's literature, from French, German and Danish.These include The Castle by Franz Kafka, [2] Austerlitz by W. G. Sebald, [3] the Inkworld trilogy by Cornelia Funke and the French Asterix comics with co-translator Derek Hockridge.
The translation should be true to original work and retain the viewpoint of the author. The translation should reflect the style of the author and of the original language. The book should not be unduly "Americanized." The book's reader should be able to sense that the book came from another country. Folk literature is not eligible.

Waterfield was born in 1952, and studied Classics at Manchester University, where he achieved a first class degree in 1974.He went on to research ancient Greek philosophy at King's College, Cambridge until 1978, after which he became a lecturer at Newcastle University and then St Andrews University. [2]
