Baia Mare (US: / ˌ b ɑː j ə ˈ m ɑːr ə / BAH-yə MAR-ə, [2] [3] Romanian: [ˈbaja ˈmare] ⓘ; Hungarian: Nagybánya; German: Frauenbach or Groß-Neustadt; Latin: Rivulus Dominarum) is a city along the Săsar River, in northwestern Romania; it is the capital of Maramureș County.
It is known for its well-preserved stronghold, established by the Moldavian prince Stephen the Great (Ștefan cel Mare in Romanian) in 1499. [3] The origins of the name Soroca are not fully known. Soroca (сорока) is the East Slavic word for magpie. Its location is only a few kilometers from the Moldova–Ukrainian border.

Remetea Mare is located in the center of Timiș County, 12 km (7.5 mi) east of Timișoara. It is crossed by DN6 and the Bega Canal. It borders Pișchia to the northeast, Recaș to the east, Bucovăț to the south and Giarmata to the west. The commune covers an area of 58.15 ha (143.7 acres). [2]
