Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack (formerly Wheeling Downs) is a greyhound racino located on Wheeling Island in the middle of the Ohio River, which is a part of the city of Wheeling, West Virginia. It is located just off the Wheeling Island exit of I-70, about two hours east of Columbus, Ohio.

Originally to be known as Waterford Downs, the track's parent company was incorporated in 1937. [2] The effort was led by Al Boyle, president of the Charles Town Races , who named it after his family's ancestral home of Waterford, Ireland . [ 3 ]
Formerly known as Wheeling Downs, the facility features live greyhound racing, slots, poker games, and casino-style table games. In accordance with House Bill 271, [ 41 ] adopted on March 8, 2007, Ohio County and Jefferson County held special elections on June 9, 2007, to approve the legalization of table games within the respective counties.
In March 2018, Hartman & Tyner sold the property to Delaware North, the owner of West Virginia's only other greyhound racing track, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] Since January 2023, they have been the only two remaining greyhound racing venues in the United States .
Wheeling Island is the most populated island in the Ohio River. [1] It lies within the city of Wheeling in Ohio County , West Virginia , in the United States . The 2000 census showed a resident population of 3,142 people on the island, which has a land area of 1.514 square kilometres (374 acres). [ 2 ]
